DIRECTOR OF ACCOUNTINGPOSITION OVERVIEWA well-established, mission-driven organization is seeking an experienced Director of Accounting to lead and oversee all accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and audit activities. This senior-level role is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data, strengthening internal controls, and providing strategic financial insight to support organizational goals.This position offers the opportunity to lead a skilled accounting team while partnering with executive leadership on budgeting, reporting, and continuous process improvement. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Direct and oversee daily accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, payroll, trust funds, and grant reportingLead the preparation and review of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and operating reportsEnsure compliance with internal policies, accounting standards, and applicable state and federal regulationsDevelop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and audit proceduresServe as the primary liaison for external auditors and regulatory agencies; oversee all aspects of annual auditsReview journal entries, account reconciliations, and financial analyses for accuracy and completenessAssist with the development of annual operating budgets and monitor expenditures to ensure fiscal responsibilityAnalyze financial trends and recommend process and system improvements to enhance efficiency and reporting accuracyLead, mentor, and develop accounting staff, fostering accountability and professional growthPrepare and present complex financial reports and insights to leadership as needed QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field from an accredited institution (required)7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including leadership or supervisory responsibilitiesExperience overseeing audits, internal controls, and financial complianceGovernmental or public-sector accounting experience preferredStrong working knowledge of accounting systems, policies, and best practicesValid driver’s license and ability to meet organizational insurance requirements SKILLS & CORE COMPETENCIES Advanced knowledge of accounting principles, financial reporting, and budget managementStrong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skillsAbility to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with minimal supervisionExcellent written and verbal communication skillsProven ability to lead teams and collaborate cross-functionallyProficiency with accounting software and standard business applications COMPENSATION & BENEFITS Annual Salary Range: $96,000 – $100,505, depending on experience and qualificationsComprehensive benefits packageStable, long-term opportunity with a mission-focused organization ABOUT SnellingLocally owned and operated here in Lubbock since 1967, our Snelling team has been matching exceptional people with exceptional job opportunities for over 55 years.
