Controller in Lubbock, Tx
USA working eligibility only.
Controller (Manufacturing/Industrial Services)
Compensation: $120,000–$150,000 base DOE + bonus opportunity
About the Opportunity
Snelling is recruiting a Controller for a confidential client in the industrial services/manufacturing space. Working in tandem with the President/CEO, you’ll lead the accounting organization end to end—owning the close, strengthening internal controls, partnering with Operations on cost and margin, and delivering timely, GAAP-compliant reporting that drives decisions. Ideal for a Plant Controller/Accounting Leader who’s hands-on, process-minded, and ready to scale a growing West Texas operation.
What You’ll Do
- Lead core accounting: GL, AP/AR, payroll, fixed assets, and month-/quarter-/year-end close with on-time, GAAP-compliant financial statements.
- Own budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning; publish weekly/monthly KPI dashboards (revenue, gross margin, overhead absorption, DSO/DPO, inventory turns, WIP aging).
- Drive cost accounting excellence in a job-based/production environment: job/standard costing, BOM/WIP accuracy, labor & overhead application, variance analysis, and margin improvement with Operations.
- Strengthen internal controls, policies, and procedures; maintain documented SOPs and audit-ready workpapers.
- Manage compliance: sales/use tax, property tax, 1099s, and coordination with external CPA/tax advisors.
- Serve as ERP owner: chart of accounts design, data integrity, reporting, and process improvements; lead or support system upgrades/implementations.
- Oversee banking/treasury: daily cash, borrowing base and covenant tracking, credit facilities, and cash management strategies.
- Partner with leadership on pricing, bids/quotes, capex/ROI analyses, and scenario modeling to support profitable growth.
- Build and mentor a small accounting team; implement a close calendar, SLA, and review cadence that shortens the close and improves accuracy.
What You’ll Bring
- Bachelor’s in Accounting or Finance required; CPA and/or CMA strongly preferred.
7–10+ years progressive accounting experience with 3+ years in manufacturing, industrial services, coatings, construction, or energy. - Proven depth in cost accounting (job/standard costing, inventory control, WIP, variance analysis) and margin improvement.
- ERP proficiency (NetSuite, Sage, Microsoft Dynamics, QuickBooks Enterprise, or similar) and advanced Excel (lookups, pivots, modeling).
- Demonstrated success tightening close timelines, improving internal controls, and modernizing reporting.
- Clear, concise communicator—comfortable partnering with shop/field leaders and the executive team.
- Hands-on, on-site leader who thrives in a fast-moving, owner-led environment; bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
Success Looks Like
- Accurate, GAAP-compliant month-end close in 5–7 business days.
- Clean inventory and job cost data with actionable variance insights every month.
- Reliable cash forecasts and KPI reporting are reviewed weekly by leadership.
- Documented controls and audit-ready workpapers with no material deficiencies.
- A coached-up team executing against a clear close calendar and SOPs.
Compensation & Benefits
- Salary: $120,000–$150,000 DOE + bonus opportunity
- Benefits: Medical, Dental, Vision, LTD/STD, PTO, and paid holidays
